Occupational therapy and daily functioning

Everyone has daily activities that are important. For example, looking after yourself, doing the housework, work, to study, caring for others, social contacts taking care of yourself or making time for relaxation. Usually, these activities come naturally. But sometimes you may find that everyday tasks take more effort, time or energy.

This may be due to physical symptoms, fatigue, a condition, psychological strain, changes at work or in your private life, or because your daily routine is temporarily different from what you are used to. Occupational therapy helps you to carry out activities as independently, enjoyably and appropriately as possible once again.

Together, we look not only at what is causing difficulties, but above all at what is needed to help you function better again in your daily life.

  • What do we offer?

    Occupational therapy for problems with daily functioning focuses on everyday activities that are important to you but which no longer go as you would like.

    During an initial assessment, for example, we look at:

    • which activities have become difficult;
    • how much energy daily activities require;
    • what your day looks like and where bottlenecks arise;
    • the influence of your environment at home, at school or at work;
    • opportunities to carry out activities differently, more easily or more independently.

    Depending on your situation, the support we offer may include advice, skills training, coaching, energy management, assistive technology or practical adjustments tailored to your everyday life.

  • Who is this offer aimed at?

    Occupational therapy for difficulties with daily functioning may be appropriate if you:

    • notices that everyday activities take more energy than they used to;
    • has difficulty with plans, organising or continuing activities;
    • less independent have become;
    • you are no longer able to carry out tasks at home, at school or at work properly;
    • experiences symptoms due to overload or fatigue;
    • is looking for a better balance between exertion and relaxation;
    • want to continue with your daily activities despite a condition or disability;
    • you may find that you are participating less happily or less actively in daily life.
  • What can you expect?

    An appointment with the occupational therapist begins with an initial consultation about your daily activities, what is important to you and the challenges you face. Together, we’ll look at what you want to maintain, improve or take up again.

    Depending on your situation, we will work with you to assess how your daily activities are going and which factors influence your day-to-day functioning. In doing so, we look not only at you, but also at your environment and daily routines.

    In any case, you can count on:

    • personalised attention to your situation and goals;
    • practical advice tailored to your everyday life;
    • support tailored to what matters to you;
    • an approach that suits your circumstances and environment;
    • collaboration with other healthcare providers from Rondom where this adds value.

  • Collaboration with other healthcare providers

    Day-to-day functioning is influenced by many different factors. That is why our occupational therapists work together with other healthcare professionals at Rondom where necessary.

    Depending on your situation, this could be, for example, a physiotherapist, lifestyle coach, psychologist, podiatrist or another practitioner. By looking together at your functioning, workload and daily activities, we provide support tailored to your situation.

  • Costs and reimbursement

    Occupational therapy is covered by basic health insurance. You are entitled to 10 hours of occupational therapy per calendar year. Do you have supplementary insurance? If so, you may be entitled to additional treatment hours on top of these 10 hours. This varies depending on your health insurer and policy. You should therefore always read your policy terms and conditions carefully or contact your health insurer. That way, you’ll know exactly how many treatment sessions are covered for you. • Frequently Asked Questions

    We have already compiled many answers to practical questions about our occupational therapy services for you. For example:

    • Occupational therapy may be appropriate if you find daily activities difficult or if they no longer go as you would like. For example, when it comes to work, study, caring for others, housework, leisure or social activities. Together, we will explore what is important to you and what might help.

    • During the first appointment, we will discuss the challenges you face in your daily life and what your goals are. We will then work together to identify why certain activities have become difficult. Based on this, we will draw up a plan tailored to your situation.

    • Yes, that is possible in many situations. Certainly when symptoms are mainly evident at home or when looking at the environment helps to find practical solutions.

    • Sometimes, yes, but occupational therapy focuses primarily on how you carry out activities in your daily life. This may mean that you are given advice, strategies, aids or practical tasks to try out at home.

    • That varies from person to person and depending on the nature of the support required. Some people find that a few appointments and some advice are enough, whilst others prefer longer-term support. We’ll discuss together what is appropriate.

    • Yes, if it helps with your treatment, the occupational therapist can work together with, for example, a GP, a physiotherapist, a practice nurse, a specialist, a school or an employer. Naturally, this will always be done in consultation with you.
