Occupational therapy for physical disabilities
A physical disability can affect how you carry out everyday activities. Activities that used to come naturally may now require more time, strength or energy. Sometimes certain tasks become less practical to perform, or you may feel uncertain about what you are still able to do.
You may notice that personal care takes more effort, household chores take longer, or that work, hobbies or social activities may not come as naturally. Changes in your mobility, stamina, strength or physical capacity may also affect how you organise your day.
Occupational therapy helps you to carry out everyday activities as independently, safely and enjoyably as possible. In doing so, we look not only at physical changes, but above all at how activities can continue to suit your abilities.

What do we offer?
Occupational therapy for people with physical disabilities focuses on maintaining, adapting or regaining the ability to carry out daily activities.
During an initial assessment, for example, we look at:
- which activities have become difficult to carry out;
- the influence of strength, mobility and resilience on everyday activities;
- how much energy activities require;
- the role of assistive devices and practical adjustments;
- opportunities to carry out activities differently or more efficiently.
Depending on your situation, our support may consist of advice, skills training, energy management, assistive devices, ergonomic advice or practical adjustments that fit in with your daily life.
Who is this offer intended for?
Occupational therapy for physical disabilities may be appropriate if you:
- experiences difficulty with everyday activities;

- support for changes in mobility or physical capacity;
- wish to maintain or increase your independence;

- becomes tired more quickly during daily activities;
- support when using assistive devices;
- wish to continue carrying out your daily activities despite physical limitations.
This service may be suitable for children, young people, adults en elderly people who experience physical limitations that affect their day-to-day functioning.
What can you expect?
An appointment with the occupational therapist begins with a discussion about the activities that are important to you and the practical difficulties you face. Together, we will look at which tasks cause you more difficulty and what goals you wish to achieve.
Depending on your situation, we will assess how activities are carried out and where adjustments can be made. This may involve considering posture, physical strain, energy management, assistive devices, working techniques or organising activities differently.
In any case, you can count on:
- practical advice tailored to your everyday situation;
- support focused on independence and self-determination;
- focus on physical capacity and energy balance;
- solutions that can be applied in home, work or leisure situations;
- collaboration with other healthcare providers from Rondom where this adds value.

Collaboration with other healthcare providers
In the case of physical disabilities, physical capacity, movement and daily activities constantly influence one another. That is why our occupational therapists work together with other healthcare professionals at Rondom where necessary.
Depending on your situation, this could be, for example, a physiotherapist, podiatrist, lifestyle coach, psychologist or other practitioner. Together, we look at how exercise, recovery, physical demands and daily activities can be better aligned. In this way, our support is not only focused on symptoms, but above all on maintaining independence.

Costs and reimbursement
Occupational therapy is covered by basic health insurance. You are entitled to 10 hours of occupational therapy per calendar year. Do you have supplementary insurance? If so, you may be entitled to additional treatment hours on top of these 10 hours. This varies depending on your health insurer and policy. You should therefore always read your policy terms and conditions carefully or contact your health insurer. That way, you’ll know exactly how many treatment sessions are covered for you.
