Occupational therapy for mental health and psychosocial issues

Mental and psychosocial issues can affect how you experience and organise your day. Activities that used to come naturally may now require more energy or prove more difficult. Sometimes it can be harder to maintain an overview, create structure or keep up with activities.

Mental health issues can, for example, affect energy levels, concentration, mood or motivation. Psychosocial symptoms often arise from the interaction between yourself and your environment. For example, due to stress, changes at work or in your personal life, prolonged strain or significant life events. Both can affect your day-to-day functioning.

Occupational therapy helps you to organise your activities in a way that suits your energy levels, capacity, daily circumstances and what matters to you. In doing so, we focus not on the symptom itself, but on how you can regain control of your daily life.

Occupational therapy for mental health and psychosocial issues
  • What do we offer?

    Occupational therapy for mental health and psychosocial issues focuses on restoring or enhancing everyday functioning.

    During an initial assessment, for example, we look at:

    • how your days are structured and where bottlenecks arise;
    • the balance between exercise, recovery and relaxation;
    • factors that influence energy levels and work capacity;
    • stimulus processing and coping with crowds or expectations;
    • opportunities to build up activities step by step.

    Depending on your situation, our support may consist of advice, coaching, energy management, developing activities, practising skills or making practical adjustments that fit in with your daily life.

  • Who is this offer intended for?

    Occupational therapy for mental health and psychosocial issues may be appropriate if you:

    • notices that everyday activities have become more difficult to carry out;
    • has difficulty with structure to maintain the rhythm;
    • becomes overstimulated or exhausted more quickly;
    • finds it difficult to start or finish activities;
    • notices that work, social contacts or relaxation have become unbalanced;
    • seeks support when there are changes in work capacity;
    • finds it difficult to incorporate sufficient recovery periods;
    • want to gain more control over your daily life.

    This service may, for example, be suitable for long-term stress, anxiety symptoms, mood disorders, psychosocial strain or other situations in which mental health issues affect daily activities.

  • What can you expect?

    An appointment with the occupational therapist begins with a discussion about your daily activities, your energy levels and what you would like to change. Together, we will explore which activities give you energy, which ones drain your energy, and which habits or patterns affect your ability to function.

    Depending on your situation, we will work with you step by step to map out how your days unfold and where there is scope to organise your activities differently. This may involve focusing on structure, the distribution of activities, periods of recovery and resuming activities that are important to you.

    In any case, you can count on:

    • support tailored to your pace and circumstances;
    • practical advice for home, work and everyday life;
    • support in establishing routines and activities;
    • focus on energy balance and sensory processing;
    • collaboration with other healthcare providers from Rondom where this adds value.

  • Collaboration with other healthcare providers

    Mental and psychosocial issues often do not occur in isolation. Energy levels, sleep, daily routines and circumstances at work or in your private life can all affect how you function on a day-to-day basis. That is why our occupational therapists work alongside other healthcare professionals at Rondom where necessary.

    Depending on your situation, this could be, for example, a psychologist or lifestyle coach Together, we look at how daily activities, recovery, energy levels and habits can be better aligned, so that support is not only focused on symptoms, but above all on strengthening day-to-day functioning.
