Occupational therapy for neurological conditions
A neurological condition can affect many different aspects of daily life. Activities that used to come naturally may now require more time, energy or attention. Sometimes the way you move changes; at other times, it is the way you process information, remember things or sustain activities that changes.
You may notice that everyday tasks are becoming more difficult, that you tire more quickly, find it hard to keep track of things, or feel less confident in carrying out daily activities. You may also experience changes in how you process stimuli, concentration or doing several things at once can affect how your day goes.
Occupational therapy helps you to continue carrying out daily activities as independently, safely and comfortably as possible. In doing so, we look not only at what has changed, but above all at ways in which you can continue to carry out activities in a way that suits you.

What do we offer?
Occupational therapy for neurological conditions focuses on maintaining, adapting or rebuilding daily activities.
During an initial assessment, for example, we look at:
- how changes affect everyday activities;
- energy distribution and capacity throughout the day;
- moving, carrying out and maintaining activities;
- concentration, overview, memory and sensory processing;
- ways of organising or carrying out activities differently.
Depending on your situation, our support may consist of advice, skills training, compensation strategies, energy management, assistive devices or practical adjustments that fit in with your daily life.
Who is this offer intended for?
Occupational therapy for neurological conditions may be appropriate if you:
- experiences difficulty with daily activities due to changes in movement or thinking;
- get tired more quickly or have a lower tolerance for physical exertion;
- is experiencing problems with concentration, memory or overview;
- are less able to carry out activities independently;
- more structure if you want to get a grip on the day;
- Seeking support during changes following a neurological condition;
- want to continue with your activities despite any limitations;
- seeks practical solutions in everyday life.
This service may, for example, be suitable for people with a neurological condition such as Parkinson’s or multiple sclerosis (MS). It may also be suitable for people with neurological symptoms resulting from a stroke, concussion or other neurological condition.
What can you expect?
An appointment with the occupational therapist begins with a discussion about your daily life, the changes you are experiencing and the activities that are important to you. Together, we will determine which activities are a priority and where the biggest difficulties arise.
Depending on your situation, we will assess how your daily activities are going and which factors are affecting your ability to function. This may involve looking at energy levels, organising your activities, managing stimuli, memory strategies or practical solutions for at home.
In any case, you can count on:
- support tailored to your personal situation. For example, targeted exercises to improve arm and hand function following a neurological incident;
- practical advice that can be applied straight away;
- attention to independence and quality of life;
- support in coping with changes in daily functioning;
- collaboration with other healthcare providers from Rondom where this adds value.

Collaboration with other healthcare providers
In the case of neurological conditions, movement, energy levels, thinking and daily functioning often influence one another significantly. That is why our occupational therapists work alongside other healthcare professionals at Rondom where necessary.
Depending on your situation, this could, for example, be a physiotherapist, lifestyle coach, psychologist, podiatrist or another practitioner. By working together to assess your functioning, recovery, workload and daily activities, we provide support that is tailored to what matters to you. Where appropriate, we tailor our support so that advice complements one another in your daily life.

Costs and reimbursement
Occupational therapy is covered by basic health insurance. You are entitled to 10 hours of occupational therapy per calendar year. Do you have supplementary insurance? If so, you may be entitled to additional treatment hours on top of these 10 hours. This varies depending on your health insurer and policy. You should therefore always read your policy terms and conditions carefully or contact your health insurer. That way, you’ll know exactly how many treatment sessions are covered for you.
