Occupational therapy for burnout and bore-out
Sometimes the balance between exertion and recovery is disrupted. Activities that used to come naturally now take more energy or feel less achievable. As a result, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain a balance between work, daily tasks, social contacts and relaxation.
Burn-out often results from prolonged overwork: for an extended period, more is demanded of a person than they can cope with. Bore-out, on the other hand, results from underwork: a lack of challenge, meaning or variety. This can lead to a decline in energy, motivation and engagement. Although the causes differ, both situations can affect energy levels, concentration, resilience and day-to-day functioning.
Occupational therapy helps to restore balance to daily activities. In doing so, we look not only at your symptoms, but above all at how you can better align your energy, activities and recovery with your needs.

What do we offer?
Occupational therapy for burnout and bore-out focuses on restoring balance in daily activities and building up functioning in a sustainable way.
During an initial assessment, for example, we look at:
- how your days are structured and where energy is lost or, conversely, gained;
- the balance between exertion, recovery and relaxation;
- signs of overwork or underutilisation;
- patterns in work, daily activities and moments of rest;
- ways of redistributing or structuring activities differently.
Depending on your situation, our support may consist of advice, energy management, coaching, activity analysis, structuring daily activities or practical adjustments tailored to your everyday life.
Who is this offer intended for?
Occupational therapy for burnout and bore-out may be appropriate if you:
- you are suffering from prolonged fatigue or have low energy levels;
- struggles to maintain a work-life balance;
- you are no longer able to keep up with your activities;
- notices that daily routines have fallen by the wayside;
- have become more easily overwhelmed or, conversely, less engaged;
- support for recovery or a return to work;
- has difficulty managing the balance of activities;
- want to gain more control over your daily routine and energy levels.
This service may be suitable if mental strain, long-term stress or under-stimulation are affecting your day-to-day functioning.
What can you expect?
An appointment with the occupational therapist begins with a discussion about what your days are like, where your energy goes and which activities are important to you. Together, we explore what patterns have emerged and what changes might help.
Depending on your situation, we will assess how stress and recovery influence each other. This may involve looking at energy diaries, activity patterns, recovery periods, recognising boundaries, building up activities and returning to work.
In any case, you can count on:
- support tailored to your capacity and pace;
- practical advice on daily routines and energy balance;
- support with recovery from structure and rhythm;
- a focus on sustainable recovery and a return to everyday activities;
- collaboration with other healthcare providers from Rondom where this adds value.

Collaboration with other healthcare providers
In cases of burnout and bore-out, work, recovery, lifestyle, mental strain and daily activities often all play a role at the same time. That is why our occupational therapists work alongside other healthcare professionals at Rondom where necessary.
Depending on your situation, this could be, for example, a psychologist, lifestyle coach, physiotherapist, or another practitioner. We coordinate our support and work with you to find ways to better manage your energy levels, daily activities and recovery. If appropriate for your situation, we also focus on gradually and realistically building up your work and other daily activities.

Costs and reimbursement
Occupational therapy is covered by basic health insurance. You are entitled to 10 hours of occupational therapy per calendar year. Do you have supplementary insurance? If so, you may be entitled to additional treatment hours on top of these 10 hours. This varies depending on your health insurer and policy. You should therefore always read your policy terms and conditions carefully or contact your health insurer. That way, you’ll know exactly how many treatment sessions are covered for you.
