Proliferation of nerve tissue

This is a benign growth of nerve tissue. It develops in areas where the nerve tissue is often damaged. People can often feel this lump, and direct pressure on it is often extremely painful. It is advisable to see a podiatrist if there is severe pain radiating into the toes and/or a sensation of numbness in the toes.

The podiatrist will use tape, silicone orthoses or corrective podiatric insoles.

The expected outcome is that symptoms will be largely alleviated, but the neurinoma will not disappear. The problem persists due to the compression that occurs. The podiatric insole and/or orthosis often needs to be worn on a permanent basis. If the results are unsatisfactory, surgery is recommended.
