Occupational Podiatry

Work sometimes takes more of a toll on your body than you realise. Standing for long periods, walking a lot, heavy physical labour or, conversely, sitting for long periods can all affect how you move and the strain placed on your feet.

This can sometimes lead to symptoms whilst at work. However, you may also find that you tire more quickly, find it harder to move comfortably, or want to recognise the warning signs before symptoms develop.

Through occupational podiatry, we work with you to find ways to keep moving comfortably and safely whilst at work and during your daily activities. We focus not only on existing symptoms, but also on preventing strain and supporting sustainable and healthy movement.

Occupational Podiatry
  • What do we offer?

    Occupational podiatry focuses on complaints affecting the feet, ankles, knees, hips and back that are related to work, physical strain and movement.

    Work often involves repetitive movements or prolonged strain. That is why we look not only at the area where you are experiencing symptoms, but also at how your work affects your feet and body.

    Depending on your situation, support may, for example, consist of:

    • research into posture, physical strain and movement at work;
    • advice on exercise and daily activities;
    • support for those experiencing discomfort whilst walking, standing or working;
    • advice aimed at reducing strain.

    The type of support that is appropriate varies from person to person.

  • Who is this offer intended for?

    Occupational podiatry may be appropriate if you:

    • symptoms you experience during or after work;
    • you stand or walk a lot whilst carrying out your work;
    • notice that work affects the way you move;
    • gets tired more quickly during a working day;
    • experiences recurring symptoms in their feet, ankles, knees, hips or back;
    • is looking for support to ensure it can continue to operate effectively;
    • notice that work-related stress is affecting your day-to-day functioning.

    Occupational podiatry is available for various types of work and professions. Are you unsure whether occupational podiatry is suitable for your situation? Or would you like to inform your employer? We’d be happy to discuss the options with you.

  • What can you expect?

    We’ll start with a discussion about your symptoms, your work and your daily activities. We’ll then examine which factors might influence how you move and the strain placed on your body whilst working. In doing so, we’ll look not only at your symptoms, but also at what you need to continue functioning comfortably.

    In any case, you can count on:

    • personalised attention to your situation and work;
    • an approach that suits your work, workload and day-to-day functioning;
    • clear explanations and practical advice on work and exercise;
    • focus on preventing recurring symptoms;
    • collaboration with other healthcare providers from Rondom where this adds value.

    Occupational Podiatry
  • Collaboration with other healthcare providers

    Occupational podiatry is tailored to your situation. Sometimes, support from a podiatrist is sufficient. In other situations, if this is available through your employer and if you wish, coordination with other healthcare providers or support relating to work may be appropriate.

    Where appropriate, our podiatrists can liaise with other healthcare professionals at Rondom. Such as a physiotherapist, lifestyle coach, occupational therapist or another practitioner. Together, we’ll look at what support best suits your symptoms, work and goals.

  • Costs and reimbursement

    Occupational podiatry falls under the umbrella of podiatry. In many cases, podiatry is (partly) covered by supplementary insurance.

    In some situations, costs are (partly) reimbursed or covered by an employer or through supplementary arrangements. The reimbursement that applies to you depends on your circumstances.

    Always check your policy terms and conditions or discuss the options with your employer where applicable.

    See our price list for our current rates. Would you like to know more about reimbursements? Then click here.

    • That varies. Occupational podiatry is usually covered under the reimbursement scheme for standard podiatry.

      Podiatry is often (partially) covered by supplementary insurance. In such cases, the reimbursement is processed via the health insurance provider. The level of reimbursement varies depending on the insurer and the policy. You should therefore always check your own policy terms and conditions.

      Sometimes, reimbursement for occupational podiatry is arranged through agreements with your employer or via employability schemes. Always check this with your employer.

    • Yes, that’s possible. Standing for long periods, walking a lot, wearing safety shoes or repetitive strain can all contribute to symptoms. Together, we’ll look at what’s possible.

    • Yes, in some situations, preventative advice can help to prevent symptoms or distribute the workload more evenly. However, the options available depend on the arrangements you have with your employer.
