Occupational therapy in rehabilitation and recovery

Following an illness, operation, accident or other significant event, daily life may temporarily look different. Activities that used to come naturally may now require more energy or may not yet be possible in the same way as before.

You may find that you need to rebuild your daily routines, that you tire more quickly, or that you have become unsure about what you are capable of doing again. Returning to work or school, household, hobbies or social activities may raise questions.

Occupational therapy helps you to gradually resume your daily activities. In doing so, we focus not only on restoring functions, but above all on how you can carry out activities again in a way that is achievable and appropriate for you.

Occupational therapy in recovery and rehabilitation
  • What do we offer?

    Occupational therapy in rehabilitation and recovery focuses on rebuilding daily activities and regaining independence.

    During an initial assessment, for example, we look at:

    • which activities you would like to take up again;
    • how resilience and recovery develop;
    • which activities still take energy or feel uncertain;
    • the structure of daily routines and activities;
    • opportunities to expand activities in a responsible manner.

    Depending on your situation, our support may consist of advice, skills training, activity planning, energy management, assistive devices or practical adjustments that support your recovery process.

  • Who is this offer intended for?

    Occupational therapy as part of rehabilitation and recovery may be appropriate if you:

    • want to gradually resume your daily activities;
    • seeking support following illness, surgery or injury;
    • notices that recovery is taking longer than expected;
    • have become uncertain when carrying out everyday tasks;
    • if you wish to resume work, study or hobbies;
    • finds it difficult to alternate exercise and recovery effectively;
    • if you wish to rebuild your independence;
    • support when returning to everyday life.

    This service may be suitable for people of all ages during a period of recovery or rehabilitation.

  • What can you expect?

    An appointment with the occupational therapist begins with a discussion about your background, your current situation and the activities you would like to be able to do again. Together, we will determine the steps needed to work towards this in a realistic way.

    Depending on your situation, we will assess how your activities are progressing and how you can better balance exertion and recovery. This may involve focusing on progression plans, energy management, resuming your usual roles, or making practical adjustments to your daily life.

    In any case, you can count on:

    • support tailored to your pace of recovery;
    • practical advice that can be applied straight away;
    • support in resuming daily activities;
    • focus on energy, development and confidence in performance;
    • collaboration with other healthcare providers at Rondom where this adds value.

  • Collaboration with other healthcare providers

    During rehabilitation and recovery, different forms of support often complement one another. That is why our occupational therapists work together with other healthcare professionals at Rondom where necessary.

    Depending on your situation, this could, for example, be a physiotherapist, podiatrist, lifestyle coach, psychologist or another practitioner. Together, we tailor the support to focus on recovery, coping capacity and daily activities, so that the transition from treatment back to participating in everyday life goes as smoothly as possible.

    Occupational therapy in rehabilitation and recovery
  • Costs and reimbursement

    Occupational therapy is covered by basic health insurance. You are entitled to 10 hours of occupational therapy per calendar year. Do you have supplementary insurance? If so, you may be entitled to additional treatment hours on top of these 10 hours. This varies depending on your health insurer and policy. You should therefore always read your policy terms and conditions carefully or contact your health insurer. That way, you’ll know exactly how many treatment sessions are covered for you.
