Occupational therapy for cognitive difficulties
Cognitive problems can affect how you process information and carry out everyday activities. Activities that used to come naturally may now require more attention, time or energy. Sometimes you may find that you get distracted more easily, struggle to keep track of things, or that ordinary tasks take more effort.
Perhaps you forget appointments, lose track of things more easily, or find it harder to plan and complete activities. Problems with concentration, processing information or multitasking can also affect your work, household chores and social activities.
Occupational therapy helps to make everyday activities manageable and achievable again. In doing so, we do not focus on improving cognition itself, but on ways to organise and sustain everyday activities more effectively.

What do we offer?
Occupational therapy for cognitive difficulties focuses on supporting daily activities when thinking and processing information become more difficult.
During an initial assessment, for example, we look at:
- how problems with attention, memory or organisation affect daily activities;
- which situations require extra effort;
- how activities are planned, started and completed;
- the influence of stimuli and information processing throughout the day;
- ways of organising or supporting activities differently.
Depending on your situation, our support may consist of advice, compensation strategies, structure, assistive devices, practising skills or making practical adjustments that fit in with your daily life.
Who is this offer intended for?
Occupational therapy for cognitive difficulties may be appropriate if you:
- has difficulty with concentrate or focus;
- forgets things more often or loses track of things;
- if you find it difficult to carry out activities planning or organising;
- has difficulty completing tasks;
- becomes overstimulated more quickly;
- support for changes in thinking or information processing;
- is less able to carry out daily activities independently;
- want to get a better grip on your day and daily routines.
This service may, for example, be appropriate when cognitive difficulties arise following illness, prolonged stress, a medical condition, recovery or other situations in which day-to-day functioning changes.
What can you expect?
An appointment with the occupational therapist begins with a discussion about the situations in which you experience cognitive difficulties and which activities are important to you. Together, we will explore where you are struggling and which circumstances are affecting your ability to function.
Depending on your situation, we’ll look at how activities are structured and where support might be helpful. This may involve focusing on the use of memory aids, simplifying tasks, managing attention or adapting routines.
In any case, you can count on:
- support tailored to your everyday situation;
- a comprehensive cognitive assessment relating to your daily activities;
- practical strategies that can be applied straight away;
- support with the overview, structure and routines;
- focus on sensory processing and energy balance;
- collaboration with other healthcare providers at Rondom where this adds value.

Collaboration with other healthcare providers
Cognitive problems often affect several aspects of daily life at the same time. Concentration, energy, sensory processing and daily activities have a significant influence on one another. That is why our occupational therapists work alongside other healthcare professionals at Rondom where necessary.
Depending on your situation, this could, for example, be a psychologist, physiotherapist, lifestyle coach or another practitioner. Together, we’ll look at how support can be better tailored to daily routines, so that advice not only helps during treatment but can actually be applied in everyday life.

Costs and reimbursement
Occupational therapy is covered by basic health insurance. You are entitled to 10 hours of occupational therapy per calendar year. Do you have supplementary insurance? If so, you may be entitled to additional treatment hours on top of these 10 hours. This varies depending on your health insurer and policy. You should therefore always read your policy terms and conditions carefully or contact your health insurer. That way, you’ll know exactly how many treatment sessions are covered for you.
