Working with parents

When a child receives psychological support, parents or carers often play an important role in the process. You know your child best and are involved in what happens at home every day. That is why we regard cooperation with parents as an important part of the support we provide.

For us, working in partnership with parents can form part of your child’s treatment programme. Together, we will explore how you can best support your child and how we can work together to create an environment that meets your child’s needs.

  • What do we offer?

    Collaboration with parents focuses on coordination, understanding and support throughout your child’s treatment programme. The aim is to work together to gain a better understanding of the situation and to explore how you, as a parent, can support your child’s needs during counselling or treatment.

    During meetings, for example, we discuss:

    • what questions or concerns there may be;
    • what you see and experience at home;
    • how your child reacts to situations in everyday life;
    • factors that may influence behaviour, emotions or development;
    • what support might be helpful within the family and throughout the process.

    Depending on the situation, parent consultations may form part of the treatment plan. These consultations may consist of psycho-education, an explanation of development, coordination of support and practical guidance for at home.

  • Who is this offer intended for?

    Collaboration with parents may form part of a programme when:

    • your child receives support or treatment from us;
    • it helps to actively involve parents in the process;
    • if you want a better understanding of behaviour, emotions or development;
    • if you have any questions about how you can support your child at home;
    • situations at home can affect your child’s day-to-day functioning;
    • there is a need for joint coordination regarding the support provided.
  • What can you expect?

    Cooperation with parents usually begins as part of your child’s treatment programme. During meetings, we discuss what is going on, any questions you may have and how you, as a parent, can be involved. Together, we discuss the role that parents or carers can play throughout the process.

    The discussions focus on insight, coordination and support. In doing so, we look not only at what is difficult, but also at what is already going well and what opportunities there are to build on that.

    When several healthcare providers are involved in your child’s care pathway, we will coordinate with one another where appropriate to ensure that guidance and support are well aligned.

    In any case, you can count on:

    • attention to your experiences and questions;
    • explanation of development, behaviour and emotions;
    • space to discuss situations together;
    • practical tips tailored to your family;
    • coordination within your child’s treatment programme where this adds value.
