Psychology for young people

The period of growing up and coming of age brings many changes. You develop as a person and become more independent. You also have to deal with new expectations at school, in social relationships and in everyday life.

Sometimes, during this phase, problems or situations arise that cause a temporary dip in well-being. For example, due to stress, low mood, uncertainty, tension, getting stuck in one’s thoughts or emotions, or difficulty coping with changes and expectations.

We offer counselling, assessment and treatment for young people with psychological concerns and mental health issues. Together, we explore what is going on, which factors are influencing your situation and what support best suits your needs and stage of life.

  • What do we offer?

    We offer short-term, problem-focused psychological support tailored to your personal development and life circumstances.

    A treatment programme may consist of diagnostics, treatment or a combination of both. During an initial assessment and any diagnostic tests, for example, we identify:

    • what symptoms or requests for help are involved;
    • how you deal with feelings, thoughts and situations;
    • the impact that symptoms have on school, social interactions and daily life;
    • which factors influence or perpetuate symptoms;
    • which form of support or treatment may be appropriate.

    Depending on your situation, our support may consist of consultations, diagnostics, psycho-education, treatment and support that helps people cope better with symptoms in their daily lives.

  • Who is this offer intended for?

    Adolescent psychology may be appropriate if you:

    • notices that feelings or thoughts are getting in the way;
    • suffer from stress, anxiety or pressure to perform;
    • you often feel down, uncertain or anxious;
    • have difficulty with changes or expectations;
    • if you have any questions about identity, self-image or development;
    • gets stuck in social situations or relationships;
    • notices that symptoms are affecting their schoolwork or day-to-day functioning;
    • seeking support to better manage their emotions or behaviour.
  • What can you expect?

    A programme usually begins with an initial consultation during which we discuss together what is going on, the challenges you are facing and the goals that are important to you.

    Where further insight is required, diagnostic assessments may form part of the process. These may consist of interviews, questionnaires and, where appropriate, additional tests.

    You are at the centre of the process. Where appropriate or desirable, your parents or carers will be involved in parts of the process; we will discuss this with you. We will also work with you to identify what support from those around you might be helpful.

    We will then decide together on the next steps that are appropriate for your situation. These may include treatment, a combined programme of assessment and treatment, or advice on suitable support.

    In any case, you can count on:

    • attention to your needs and development;
    • an approach tailored to age, circumstances and goals;
    • space to better understand feelings, behaviour and patterns;
    • a clear explanation of the process and expectations;
    • collaboration with other healthcare providers from Rondom where this adds value.
  • For parents and carers

    When a young person receives support, this often affects their parents or carers as well. That is why we work together to determine what level of involvement is appropriate and helpful throughout the process.

    The young person is always at the centre of our care. At the same time, parents or carers can play an important role in understanding symptoms, providing support in daily life and contributing ideas about what might be helpful.

    How parents or carers are involved varies depending on age, the nature of the support required and the situation. Sometimes there are joint meetings; at other times, the support is primarily focused on the young person themselves. Together, we make clear arrangements about this.

  • Collaboration with other healthcare providers

    Symptoms can affect various aspects of daily life. That is why our psychologists take a broader view than just the symptom itself.

    Where appropriate, we work together with other healthcare providers from Rondom. Depending on your situation, this could be, for example, a occupational therapist, lifestyle coach or another practitioner. In this way, we ensure that the support we provide is tailored to your development, goals and everyday life.
