      Who am I?

My name is Kirsten Lemmens and I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from Eindhoven University of Technology. During my studies, I developed a passion for designing products that help people live healthier and happier lives. I enjoy working with users and healthcare professionals to develop solutions that are well suited to real-world practice. For my final-year research project, I collaborated with Rondom to support participants in the lifestyle programme in developing healthy habits in their daily lives.

      What is my research about?

During my final-year research project, I investigated how participants in the lifestyle programme could be given even better support in developing and maintaining healthy habits. Discussions with lifestyle coaches and other staff at Rondom revealed that participants could benefit even more from extra motivation and a sense of community, both during and between group sessions. Based on these insights, I developed Moev: a combination of an interactive board game and a personalised home kit. The home kit is an interactive box containing various activities from which participants can choose themselves, and which tracks the activities they have completed. MOEV encourages participants to discover new activities, share experiences with one another and build a healthy lifestyle step by step.

      What have I found?

The interviews and user tests revealed that participants need an accessible and positive way to start making lifestyle changes. In particular, the freedom to choose activities for themselves and to share experiences with others was seen as valuable. The combination of the group game and the home kit was also rated positively, as it supports participants between group sessions and motivates them to try out different activities. Initial results show that Moev aligns well with the wishes of both participants and lifestyle coaches.

How can this be applied in practice?

Moev can be used to complement Rondom’s current lifestyle programme. The board game can be used during group sessions to spark conversations and enable participants to learn from one another. The personalised home kit then helps participants to try out new activities at home in an accessible way and to build healthy habits. In addition, the data collected can be used to support coaching sessions, enabling participants to reflect together on their progress.
