Clinical perspectives of podiatrists in the care of patients with chemotherapy-induced neuropathy

Ongoing research project
Period:
April 2025–present
Research domain:
Clinical domain-specific and cross-domain research
Clinical perspectives of podiatrists in the care of patients with chemotherapy-induced neuropathy
Why do we do this?

Neuropathy is a common condition among cancer patients receiving neurotoxic chemotherapy. It is associated with symptoms such as tingling, prickling and muscle weakness, particularly in the hands and feet. Neuropathy can also lead to problems with gait and balance, and an increased risk of falling. The podiatrist could play an important role in the treatment of patients with chemotherapy-induced neuropathy. However, we do not know what the current clinical perspectives of Dutch podiatrists are, nor whether they have specific needs (such as training or guidelines) to be able to provide adequate care.

How should we handle this?

A mixed-methods study is being conducted involving focus groups and a survey amongst Dutch podiatrists

Status and progress
