Rondom Lopen Groep signs the National Walking Masterplan

The National Walking Masterplan was launched on 10 October during the National Pedestrians’ Congress. As a partner in this initiative, we are proud to be part of this joint action plan, which has been signed by more than sixty organisations. With the Master Plan, we aim to ensure that walking becomes a natural part of everyday life for everyone.

The National Walking Masterplan has been drawn up based on the conviction that walking not only contributes to the physical and mental health of the Dutch population, but also helps to resolve key social issues in the fields of healthcare, mobility, social cohesion and sustainability.

Despite these benefits, figures show that more attention needs to be paid to pedestrians. Only 44 per cent of Dutch people meet the physical activity guidelines. The number of pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents is also rising, and around 20,000 pedestrians a year have to go to A&E because they trip, slip or bump into something on the street.

The National Walking Masterplan sets out a vision for 2040, with thirty concrete actions to work together towards creating a walking-friendly public space and to encourage people to walk more often. We look forward to working together to contribute to a healthier and more accessible living environment for everyone.
