Risk factors for mid-portion Achilles tendinopathy (Achilles tendon problems)

In collaboration with researchers from the University of Amsterdam and the Ministry of Defence We are conducting research into the risk factors for Achilles tendon problems.

      Reason

Achilles tendon problems are common among people who exercise regularly, with approximately 2–3 cases per 1,000 patients. These problems can lead to pain and difficulty moving. This, in turn, can result in absence from work or sporting activities, and may affect quality of life. It may be possible to prevent Achilles tendon problems. The aim of this study is to gain an understanding of the risk factors for Achilles tendon problems, so that preventive measures can be taken in the future.

      Type of research

A systematic literature review is being carried out with the aim of identifying various risk factors. This review will also examine whether the effects of certain risk factors differ between runners and military personnel. The research report is currently being written. Further information about this research project can be found at this link.
