Felt therapy

If pressure points are identified on the foot and need to be relieved immediately, felt therapy may be a solution.

What is felt therapy?

Pressure points can be very painful. To temporarily or immediately relieve pressure on these areas, a podiatrist may use felt therapy. This involves applying felt around the sensitive area. This therapy may be used prior to definitive treatment, such as a orthosis or orthotic insoles.

Felt and podiatry

The felt used by the podiatrist consists of a supple and breathable layer of wool fibres. One side has an adhesive layer of zinc oxide. The felt is available in various thicknesses and can be applied directly to the skin. The adhesive layer ensures that the felt stays securely in place. The felt is not water-resistant. The use of the zinc oxide adhesive layer may cause skin irritation. It is therefore important that you report this to your practitioner.
