Postural and functional abnormalities of the medial metatarsal bone

This refers to an abnormal position of the first metatarsal bone, where it points excessively inwards, outwards or downwards.

In cases such as a fracture of the second metatarsal, heel spurs, overuse of the first metatarsal, tendonitis or strain on the joint between the second and third toes, an appointment can be made with the podiatrist.

The treatment involves eliminating the cause (and/or compensating for) the abnormality by means of podiatric insoles.

The expected outcome is freedom from symptoms. The condition usually persists. A podiatric insole is often required on a long-term basis.
