Sports and medical taping

Are you suffering from any injuries? As a temporary treatment, you may opt for sports or medical taping.

Applying tape can serve various purposes:

  1. Reduction in complaints
  2. Supporting muscles, ligaments and joints
  3. Restriction of movement
  4. Leading a movement

At RondOm Podotherapeuten, we use two types of tape: sports tape and medical tape.

Sports tape

Sporttape is non-elastic, very strong and white in colour. It can be applied following a sprain, bruise, muscle tear or dislocation. The tape fits quite tightly against your skin, thereby restricting the mobility of the joint and reducing pain. The tape can also be used preventatively to protect joints and ligaments whilst exercising, or as part of follow-up treatment after an injury or operation. We recommend removing the tape after 4 to 5 days.

Please note: This tape must not get wet. It is therefore important that you keep the tape dry whilst showering. We recommend covering the taped area with a plastic bag.

Medical taping

For medical tape, we use an elastic, cotton tape with a hypoallergenic adhesive layer in various colours. The tape is stretchable up to 140 per cent, which is comparable to the skin. The tape does not fit tightly against your skin and facilitates movement. Medical tape also has a stimulating effect on the skin and muscles, which can help an injury heal more quickly. This tape can get wet. You can shower, swim and bathe whilst wearing it. You can leave the medical tape in place until it comes off by itself.

Skin irritation or symptoms that are getting worse?

It is normal for the tape to cause itching on the first day. If it is still very itchy on the second day, or if you experience a rash, skin irritation and/or a burning sensation, we advise you to remove the tape.
