Podiatric insoles

Podiatric insoles are removable insoles for your shoes. They are custom-made specifically for your feet. You use them instead of the insoles that already come with your shoes. Your podiatric insoles will last for approximately 1 to 3 years

What are podiatric insoles?

Podiatric insoles are insoles that have been custom-made for you by your practitioner. You use them instead of the insoles that are already in your shoes. Your podiatric insoles will last for approximately 1 to 3 years.

Podiatric insoles can help to:

  • Less pain in your feet, knees, legs, hips and lower back.
  • Less fatigue whilst standing or walking for long periods.
  • Better posture for your feet and body.
  • A better walking pattern.
  • Distributing the pressure more evenly under your feet.
  • Preventing wear and tear or problems with your feet, knees, legs, hips and lower back.
How do you use your insoles?
  • Use the insoles in shoes with a removable insole. This will ensure your feet have enough space.
  • Use the insoles in shoes with a flat interior.
  • Use the insoles in shoes with a heel of no more than 2 cm.
  • Make sure the right insole is in your right shoe and the left insole is in your left shoe.
  • Check that the insole lies flat inside the shoe and is not folded.
  • The insoles are made especially for your feet. They cannot be used by anyone else.
  • Do you wear safety footwear? If so, order CE-approved insoles from us. This will ensure that your footwear’s certification remains valid.
  • Would you like to do sport whilst wearing your insoles? Ask your podiatrist if this is allowed. Break in your insoles first before using them for sport.

Would you like to know more about the use of podiatric insoles? Then take a look at here the full user manual.

Custom-cut insoles

Have you received new podiatric insoles? Sometimes the insoles do not fit properly in your shoes. In that case, you may trim a small piece from the front of the insoles (up to 0.5 cm). If you are unsure, please contact us.

  1. Remove the insole from your shoe.
  2. Place the insole on top of the orthopaedic insole. Make sure the heels are aligned properly.
  3. Use a pen to trace the shape of the insole onto the orthopaedic insole, at the front.
  4. Carefully cut the sole to size with a pair of scissors. Please note: do not cut off more than 0.5 cm.
  5. Place the podiatric insole in your shoe and check that it lies flat. If it doesn’t fit properly, trim off a small bit.
  6. Repeat this for both soles.
Breaking in your soles

You will need to get used to your orthotic insoles. At first, you may experience muscle pain in your feet, legs or back. It may also feel as though there are lumps in your shoes. Follow the break-in schedule to break in your insoles. After two weeks, you will usually have got used to the insoles. The muscle ache will then have gone. Ultimately, the aim is for you to be able to wear the insoles for at least 6 to 8 hours a day and to have them in your shoes 5 to 7 days a week. If you still have muscle pain or other symptoms after two weeks, please contact us. We may need to adjust your insoles. There is no charge for this.

Walk-in schedule for people with diabetes

Build up the time you spend wearing your insoles gradually. Wear your insoles for half an hour on the first day. Wear them for half an hour longer each subsequent day, until you can wear the insoles for 8 hours a day. So on day 1: half an hour, on day 2: one hour, on day 3: one and a half hours, and so on. Check your feet every day for pressure points, redness, blisters, cuts and other changes to the skin. If you notice anything unusual on your feet, please contact your podiatrist.

Checking your soles
  • Please come back for a check-up in about 6 weeks, unless your podiatrist has agreed otherwise with you.
  • Have your insoles checked every year or every two years to ensure they still fit your feet properly.
  • For growing children, we recommend having their soles checked every 6 months. Has your child moved up a shoe size? If so, please come in for a check-up sooner.
  • Book a check-up appointment yourself via our website.
Caring for your soles
  • Do not wash your soles.
  • Take the insoles out of your shoes every evening so that they can air out.
  • Have your insoles got wet? Take them out of your shoes and leave them to dry at room temperature. Do not place them on the radiator.
  • Use foot covers to keep your soles clean. Pull the covers over the soles and replace them regularly.
  • Do the soles of your shoes make a noise? If so, sprinkle a little talcum powder under your soles.
  • Have damaged or worn soles checked or repaired by your podiatrist. This will help prevent symptoms from returning.
Order an extra pair of insoles

Do you already have insoles, but would you like an extra pair? If you have no complaints and have visited a podiatrist within the last two years, you can order extra insoles online. You do not need to make an appointment. Order your insoles here.

Why order new soles?

  • After a while, the soles lose their cushioning effect.
  • Your soles absorb less moisture as they age.
  • The support in your insoles may diminish, causing them to be less effective.
  • It is important to let your insoles air out from time to time. It is therefore handy to have a second pair of insoles.
Wearing the right shoes

We believe that being able to walk comfortably is very important for a healthy and happy life. For us, walking is not just a physical activity, but a freedom that allows you to enjoy life to the full: visiting friends, going for a walk in the woods or taking the grandchildren to the playground. When we walk, we take part in society and remain active members of it.

To ensure you can walk comfortably, it is important that you wear good shoes. Wearing good shoes can prevent many problems. Not only problems with your feet, but also with your ankles, knees, hips and back. Furthermore, good shoes can help existing problems to disappear more quickly.

More and more good shoe shops are disappearing from our high streets, whilst there is such a vast range available online that our patients sometimes can’t see the wood for the trees. That is why we at Rondom have set up a platform where (foot) care professionals share tips and information on buying good shoes, and which also features an online shop where comfortable shoes can be purchased.

Do you have any questions about shoes or do you need help finding the right ones? Please email us at info@rondomschoenen.nl. We’d be happy to help!

Tips for buying new shoes
  • Always try on shoes in the afternoon, as your feet may swell as the day goes on.
  • Always try on both shoes. It is normal for one foot to be longer than the other. Always buy shoes to fit your longest foot.
  • Do you have orthotic insoles? Always buy shoes with a removable insole and adjust the shoes to fit your insoles.
  • Always try on shoes whilst standing. When the foot is standing, it becomes slightly longer due to the weight bearing down on it.
  • Walk around for a while in the shoes you are trying on. Take your time when buying your shoes. If in doubt, don’t buy them.
  • Make sure you fasten your shoes correctly when trying them on (and when wearing them). For lace-up shoes, pull the laces tight and tie them securely.
  • Shoes do not stretch. In other words: a shoe does not get bigger. If a shoe is too small, it will therefore remain too small. However, the leather does become more supple with use, allowing it to mould to the shape of your feet.
  • Make sure you choose the correct length and width. A size 40 from one brand is certainly not the same as a size 40 from another brand. So don’t just look at the shoe size, but also at the fit. Our Shoe Guide will help you with this.
