Bulging/curved nails/ingrown nails (hyperconvex nails/unguis incarnatus)

This is a nail that is very rounded or curved, forming a shape resembling an inverted U, and which consequently causes pressure on the nail folds in particular. If you are experiencing any symptoms, it is best to contact a podiatrist straight away for advice.

It causes pain, particularly around the edges of the nails.

The treatment involves removing calluses, cleaning the nail folds and under the nail edge, and, if necessary, fitting a nail brace to correct the curvature.

The expected result is good, but it is possible that the curvature will return once the nail brace is no longer worn.
