Occupational Podiatry

Physical complaints caused by standing, walking or heavy work are common in the workplace. This is particularly true of occupations where staff stand or walk a lot, or wear safety footwear. And if staff stand or walk for long periods at a time, the risk of such complaints increases.

Through occupational podiatry, Rondom helps organisations to recognise these complaints at an early stage and, ideally, to prevent them. If necessary, we can also provide treatment.

In this way, we help to ensure that we continue to work in a healthy, safe and sustainable manner.

Rondom Occupational Podiatry
Who can benefit from occupational podiatry, and when?

Occupational podiatry helps organisations to prevent health issues amongst staff. It also helps to keep staff healthy and fit for work in the long term. Occupational podiatry is therefore suitable for organisations with staff who:

  • Doing a lot of work whilst standing or walking;
  • Wear safety shoes or work shoes;
  • People often have complaints about their feet, legs or back.

Occupational podiatry can help with symptoms caused by prolonged standing, walking or wearing safety footwear. However, symptoms are not usually caused by the work itself alone. They are often caused by a combination of physical strain, foot position and footwear.

Consider, for example:

  • Tired or aching feet;
  • Knee, hip or back problems;
  • Strain caused by standing or walking for long periods;
  • Pressure sores or pain caused by safety footwear;
  • A different way of walking caused by ill-fitting shoes.

Was this information helpful?

Occupational podiatry helps to identify these kinds of complaints at an early stage. This often helps to prevent absenteeism and long-term strain.

Services

Within occupational podiatry, we support organisations and employees in various ways. Our services usually consist of:

  • A shoe check;
  • A selection of good safety shoes;
  • On-site podiatry assessment and treatment.

Below, we explain each section to you in more detail.

Selecting good safety footwear

An important part of occupational podiatry is advising on the choice of suitable safety footwear. In this process, we help organisations select safety footwear that not only meets safety requirements, but also fits employees’ feet and is suited to their work.

Our occupational podiatrists consider the following, amongst other things:

  • The ergonomics of the shoe;
  • The flex point of the sole;
  • Heel support;
  • The fit on the inside;
  • Any seams or pressure points.

A well-fitting pair of safety shoes helps to prevent pressure points, pain and strain. When shoes do not fit properly, staff often unconsciously change the way they stand or walk. This can cause problems with the feet, legs, knees, hips and back. And that is something we want to prevent.

Shoe Check

Safety shoes also wear out over time. As a result, they may provide less support or, conversely, cause pressure sores. That is why we carry out a footwear check in collaboration with staff and organisations. Together, we assess the condition of the footwear. Can the footwear still be used? Or is it time for replacement or repair? In this way, we can often prevent complaints from arising.

During the shoe check, our podiatrists look at, amongst other things:

  • Wear and tear on the sole;
  • Heel support;
  • Potential pressure points on the inside of the shoe.

On-site podiatric assessment and treatment

Do staff have any complaints? If so, we will visit the workplace to carry out a podiatric examination to do. It is also possible to appointment te to make at one of our locations.

During the podiatric assessment, our podiatrists identify the source of the symptoms. We also look at what factors in the workplace might be causing or exacerbating the symptoms. If the podiatric assessment indicates that it is necessary, our podiatrists will draw up a suitable treatment plan.

In this way, we can not only treat current symptoms, but often also prevent them from returning or getting worse.
